The new Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, Kairat Umarov, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.
Prior to his appointment, he had been First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2022.
Throughout his 25-year diplomatic career, he held various positions in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2020 to 2022, he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna. Additionally, he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Slovenia in 2022.
From 2017 to 2020, he was his country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and served as its Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States between 2013 and 2017.

Kairat Ermekuly Umarov (Kazakh: Qaırat Ermekuly Omarov; born 12 January 1963) is a diplomat for the Republic of Kazakhstan. On October 6, 2022, he was appointed First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Biography
[edit]From 1998 to 2003, he served as Minister-Counselor at the Washington Embassy.[1] From September 9, 2009, to January 4, 2013—Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.[2] From early 2013 to January 4, 2016, Umarov served as Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United States.[3] From January 4, 2017, to September 30, 2020, he was appointed to the post of Permanent Representative to the United Nations.[4][5] From September 30, 2020, to October 6, 2022, he was appointed Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Austria, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to international organizations in Vienna.[6] From October 21, 202
