    Ashland, Oregon, is Hillgartner’s home. Coincidentally, that too is home to Blackstone Audio. Hillgartner calls their audio director, Grover Gardner, “a great mentor and terrific help.”

    It was Gardner who offered the first narration opportunity. Hillgartner recently narrated THE PATRIARCH: The Remarkable Life and Turbulent Times of Joseph P. Kennedy. He says, “The technical challenges of performing long-form biography are such that pacing and tone are the major focus throughout. Since the early chapters are the most eventful, I have to find a way to create interest in the later chapters by interpreting the material.” With respect to the trademark Kennedy accent, he adds, “I don’t try in any of my works to do impressions of people.     Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner met in 1978, when they were actors with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. They were married March 2, 1981 on the stage of the Empty Space Theatre in Seattle, Washington. Robert Fulghum, author of “Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” and a Unitarian minister, performed the ceremony.     Jahnna Beecham & Malcolm Hillgartner met while acting at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, were married onstage at the Empty Space Theatre in Seattle, and have been collaborating on things theatrical and literary ever since. Other musicals include Dogpark, Chaps!, and Chaps! A Jingle Jangle Christmas, published bygd Samuel French; Holmes and Watson rädda The Empire, They Came From Way Out There, and The Doll People Musical. beneath the pen name Jahnna N.
