    Meet the N.J. 'Jazzy Vegetarian' whose cooking show is a surprise hit

    There are scores of food show hosts on television.

    Only one, it is safe to say, went from child actor to playing Janis Joplin off-Broadway to making polenta pizza and butternut squash bisque on camera.

    "I'm from Ohio,''  says Laura Theodore. "I grew up in theater. I was going to be a musical comedy star on Broadway.''

    That never did quite happen, but she became an accomplished jazz singer, which serves her well on 'The Jazzy Vegetarian,' her cooking show now in its fourth season on Create TV.

    Theodore, who lives in Morris County, cooks and sometimes sings her way through each episode, which might be about throwing a festive pizza party one show or serving a vegetable-filled brunch on another.
