Bruce Manning Metzger, the quintessential Presbyterian elder, scholar and gentleman, was one of the foremost New Testament textual critics of the 20th century. He was a major contributor to our understanding of the history of formation of the New Testament canon, an influential translator of the Biblical text and an insightful interpreter of the New Testament for modern times.
Metzger graduated from Lebanon Valley College in and from Princeton Theological Seminary in ; he then earned a master’s degree in and a Ph.D. in in classics at Princeton University. When Metzger graduated from Princeton Seminary, he joined the faculty and ultimately served there for 46 years, the gods 30 as professor of New Testament, before retiring in In Metzger married Isobel Elizabeth Mackay, the daughter of the seminary president.

Bruce Manning Metzger (9 February , Middletown, Pennsylvania – 13 February , Princeton, New Jersey) was a critic of the King James Bible and spent years attempting to discredit it, whilest promoting new versions based on Westcott and Hort type Greek texts.
Biography
Metzger earned his BA at Lebanon Valley College in , then entered Princeton Theological Seminary to gain his ThB in He stayed at Princeton as a Teaching Fellow in New Testament Greek. The following year, he was ordained in the United Presbyterian Church. In , he earned his MA from Princeton University and became an Instructor in New Testament. Two years later, he earned his PhD, also from Princeton.
In , Metzger married Isobel Elizabeth Mackay, daughter of the third president of the Seminary, John A. Mackay. That same year, he was promoted to Assistant Professor. In , he became Associate Professor, and full Professor in In , M
