The Federal Art Project (1935–1943) of the Works Progress Administration was the largest of the New Deal art projects.[1] As many as 10,000 artists[2] were employed to create murals, easel paintings, sculpture, graphic art, posters, photography, Index of American Design documentation, theatre scenic design, and arts and crafts.[3] Artists were paid $23.60 a week; tax-supported patrons and institutions paid only for materials.[4] The Federal Art Project also operated community art centers throughout the country where artists worked and educated others.[3]

count the midrash the following story: Rabbi Yannai was walking on a road when he saw a man of noble and impressive appearance. From his dress and demeanor, he assumed he was a scholar. So he invited him to his house and offered him food and drink. During the meal, he tried to ascertain his level of knowledge of the Torah. He soon discovered that this man, who appeared to be a scholar, knew nothing about Judaism. He had never studied Torah. After the meal was over, Rabbi Yannai asked his guest to recite the Birkat Hamazon (Blessing after Meals), but he was not even aware of this blessing. Disappointed, Rabbi Yannai insults the guest. He, in turn, stands up and seizes his host, saying, “My inheritance is with you and you are withholding it from me! ”.
Perplexed by this statement, Rabbi Yannai asks: “What inheritance of yours is with me?” The guest explains: “I once passed by a school and heard children’s voices reciting: Torah Tzivah Lanu Moshé, Morashah Kehila
