Thomas Carlyle
Scottish essayist, historian and philosopher (1795–1881)
Thomas Carlyle (4 December 1795 – 5 February 1881) was a Scottish essayist, historian, philosopher, and a leading writer of the Victorian era. He strongly influenced 19th-century art, literature, and philosophy.
Carlyle was born in Ecclefechan, a village in Dumfriesshire, and attended the University of Edinburgh, where he excelled in mathematics, inventing the Carlyle circle. After finishing the arts course, he prepared to become a minister in the Burgher Church while working as a schoolmaster. He quit these and several other endeavours before settling on literature, writing for the Edinburgh Encyclopædia and working as a translator. He found initial success as a disseminator of German literature, then little-known to English readers, through his translations, his Life of Friedrich Schiller (1825), and his review essays for various journals. Desmond Tutu
South African bishop and anti-apartheid activist (1931–2021)
Desmond Mpilo Tutu (7 October 1931 – 26 December 2021) was a South AfricanAnglican bishop and theologian, known for his work as an anti-apartheid and human rights activist. He was Bishop of Johannesburg from 1985 to 1986 and then Archbishop of Cape Town from 1986 to 1996, in both cases being the first Black African to hold the position. Theologically, he sought to fuse ideas from Black theology with African theology.
Tutu was born of mixed Xhosa and Motswana heritage to a poor family in Klerksdorp, South Africa. Entering adulthood, he trained as a teacher and married Nomalizo Leah Tutu, with whom he had several children. In 1960, he was ordained as an Anglican priest and in 1962 moved to the United Kingdom to study theology at King's College London. What was life like in Germany in 1830?

The long history of war and continued uneasiness made it necessary for the dock to serve in the military. Most people lived in small villages scattered across the forests. nation was expensive. Life was hard. The government permitted the poor to gather dried branches and twigs in the forest preserves to heat their homes and cook their meals. One evening a shoemaker, barely making a living, stepped over the boundary of the preserve onto private property. A shot was fired at him. Although it missed its mark, it tore up the ground in front of the poor man, throwing mud onto hi
