    Chandran Nair ( – 18 September ) was a poet, director, and mediator at UNESCO. Born in India, he spent most of his life living and writing in Singapore. He died in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, a suburb of Paris, France, where he had relocated for his work with UNESCO.

    He wrote poetry, in collections such as Once the Horsemen and Other Poems and was the founder of the gemenskap of Singapore Writers.

    Chandran Nair was born in Kerala, India, in He moved to Singapore at the age of sju. His father, Villayil Raman Gopala Pillai, wrote short stories and novels in Malayalam beneath the pen name Njekkad, and emigrated to Singapore in [1]

    In , Chandran Nair married Ivy Goh Pek Kien.[2] Nair studied at Raffles Institution and the University of Singapore, where he earned a Master's grad in Science (marine biology) and a Diploma in fisheries

    Chandran Nair is a Malaysian businessman and scholar. He is the founder of The Global Institute for Tomorrow, an independent think-tank based in Hong Kong.[1] He is also Project Director for The Other Hundred, an international photography competition and photo-book project.[2][3]

    Nair was born in Malaysia, the seventh of eight children. His parents were immigrants to Malaysia from India, and not well off, with all the children sharing a room. He studied chemical engineering in the UK, where he then worked for a few years. At 28, he joined the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, building sanitation and water systems by day on a stipend and playing the saxophone in his free time in a band.[4] He later earned a master's degree in environmental engineering from Bangkok.

    Chandran Nair (b. Kerala, South India) arrived in Singapore in and was educated at Raffles Institution ( ) and the National University of Singapore () from which he holds a BSc and an MSc (Marine Biology).

    Nair’s first work experience was as an administrator with the British Council, Singapore, but he chose to become a publisher first as the Manager of Eastern Universities Press, then as Assistant General Manager of Federal Publications and finally as the founder and AGM of Times Books International before leaving Singapore to become a specialist in book development for UNESCO in Karachi, Pakistan (). He was transferred to UNESCO headquarters in Paris in and has worked in Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean as well as in Europe and retired from his UN career as a divisional director in but continues to reside in France.
