    Doris Roberts was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 4, 1925. After numerous roles on the stage and in film, in 1979 Roberts was cast on the hit TV series Angie, making her a recognizable celebrity for the first time. In 1983 she joined the cast of Remington Steele, and in 1996 she first appeared in the part of Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, a role for which she won four Emmy Awards for best supporting actress. Later made famous by her part as meddling mother Marie Barone on the hit television comedy, Roberts paid her dues for many years before becoming an "overnight" success. 

    Roberts discovered acting at an early age. She was in a kindergarten play when she got her first taste of audience appreciation. As she writes on her Facebook page, "when I heard the audience burst with laughter, I knew I wanted to be an actor!"

    Yesterday, we reported the sad news regarding the passing of legendary onscreen 'Mammy' Doris Roberts. While she was best known for her role as the formidable Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, she first came to our attention starring alongside Pierce Brosnan in his breakthrough role on Remington Steele. She played the far more fluffy character of Mildred. 

    Posting to his official Instagram yesterday, the Irish actor said: "dear Doris, we had fun did we not...you were a joy to work with, you made me laugh and you made my work better for the laughter... Love life work and laughter...here's to higher ground ...RIP."

    Irish actor Pierce Brosnan was among those to pay tribute to Doris robert, best known for playing the tart-tongued, endlessly meddling mother on TV sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.

    The 90-year-old American Emmy-winning actress died overnight in her sova, said family spokeswoman Janet Daily, who was told of the death bygd Roberts's son, Michael Cannata. The cause of death was not immediately known, but robert had been healthy and active, Ms Daily said.

    Roberts was also known for her role in the television detective series Remington Steele in which she starred alongside Brosnan.

    Under a photograph from the 1980s series on Brosnan's Instagram was a tribute from the James Bond star: "Dear Doris, we had fun did we not...you were a joy to work with, you made me laugh and you made my work better for the laughter... Love life work and laughter...here's to higher ground ...RIP".
