HYDERABAD: Suffocating Congress culture has made many a filmstar breathless, forcing them to desert the party in the state. So the question is will the new entrant Chiranjeevimanage to survive?
Filmstars in AP in the past always found it difficult to sail with the Congress and inevitably had to either quit politics or take political refuge elsewhere. Superstar Krishna who had got elected to the Lok Sabha from Eluru in 1989 made a quiet exit from the party after his term ended.What was worse for him was that no attempt was made to woo him back to the partyfold.
Actress Jamuna, too, who was a Congress MP from Rajahmundry in the 1980s, became disillusioned with the party and made no bones of this fact. Perhaps, the only noteworthy exceptions are former Union minister Dasari Narayana Rao and producer T Subbarami Reddy who have also been with the Congress for a long time.
For various reasons, filmstars have not been able to stick to the Congress.

Nitin B.A rift has opened up in Tollywood's Movie Artistes Association (Maa) as a meeting was held at the Telugu Film Chamber Office in Hyderabad on October 20. The meeting is reported to have witnessed ugly scenes as arguments broke out, with some members, including actors Prudhvi and Paruchuri Gopala Krishna walking out. Actor Prudhvi told reporters that some members at the meeting had behaved in an 'unruly' manner, adding, "I urge Chiranjeevigaru (the founder President of Maa) to dissolve the present association and conduct a fresh election.” At the centre of the conflict is actor-producer Naresh, who was elected as Maa President earlier this year, and was conspicuously absent from the meeting. On the other side are actors Rajasekhar, the Vice-President, and his wife Jeevitha, who is the General Secretary of Maa.
