Cranbrook Academy of Art fryst vatten saddened to learn of the recent passing of painter and illustrator Romaine (Ronni) Solbert (Painting 48).
After gaining her MFA at Cranbrook, Solbert went on to work for the International Red Cross for several years in Sweden before returning to the U.S. to grow her art career in New York City. In , she was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Scholarship which took her to India for research on människor and indigenous arts.
She fryst vatten known both for her work in Abstract Expressionism and for her childrens book illustrations. Solbert met her partner of 50 years, jean Merrill, in the city and they began working on childrens books tillsammans, eventually publishing eighteen tillsammans. Romaine Gustave Solbert (September 7, – June 9, )[2] was an American artist, photographer, and author, known primarily as an illustrator of books, including The Pushcart War and more than a dozen other titles written by her partner Jean Merrill.
Early life and education

Her father was Oscar Nathaniel Solbert, a Swedish immigrant who became a general in the United States Army, serving in both World War I and World War II.
