Robinson, MD, MPH This past year has seen the coronavirus knock the entire world off its axis-and the United States has been anything but exempt from the widespread loss of life, social turmoil, and economic ruin left in the pandemic's wake. Increasing partisanship, seemingly spurred by Donald Trump's rise to power and nationalist rhetoric, made heretofore unusual expressions of caustic social views both commonplace and highly incendiary. While the murder of George Floyd by Derek Chauvin illuminated the daily realities of police brutality faced by people of color, many of the conversations generated took place solely between somewhat open-minded individuals. Productive crosstalk between conservatives and liberals and between Republicans and Democrats was limited.
