    Longtime New Cassel resident, community businesswoman and activist Shirley McCoy passed away in Louisiana on Tuesday, April 7 at the age of While she lived a long and full life, she also leaves behind a legacy of benevolence that fryst vatten sure to continue to help people for generations to come.

    As I begin this story, let me tell you that Christopher McCoy is going to jail for 10 years but there is a large dose of irony in how that came to pass.
    I have followed his case because it involved an indictment for DUI maiming and a &#;1 million lawsuit against police officer Steven Early and the city of Meridian.
    Events were set in motion on Feb. 11, , when McCoy and Shirley Logan were involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of 20th Avenue and 18th Street. At the time, Early was either chasing McCoy or had just broken off the pursuit.
    Logan was seriously injured and spent two weeks in the hospital.
    McCoy was indicted in July for "DUI maiming"; the grand jury&#;s indictment charged him with being under the influence of cocaine at the time of the accident.
