    Jesus' birth and childhood

    4 B.C. to 30 A.D.

In Jesus' day, birth announcements were not celebrated with the weight, length and exact date of the baby's birth like we do now. There were no Instagram posts with infant Jesus swathed in cotton-linen cuddling a Jellycat rabbit. But Luke and Matthew, two of the Bible's gospel writers, did include the details surrounding his actual birth. Thanks to these accounts, we can create this timeline of Jesus' arrival here on earth. It is no ordinary birth story.

    A quiet period

After Herod's death the family travels back to Israel to live in Nazareth. We don't learn very much about Jesus life during this this time. The only other thing that is said about Jesus' childhood is that he grows up in height and wisdom and that he found favour with God and the people around him. There is one special event we are told about through. One quick peek into Jesus' childhood.

  • A Complete List of Events in the Life of Jesus

Below is a numbered listing of all events in the earthly life of Jesus. This is not an exhaustive listing of every text in the Gospels. (Luke&#;s introduction, for example, is not included because it is related to Luke&#;s writing of the Gospel rather than the events of Jesus&#; life.) Further, the number and order of events is not always absolute. In some cases there is room for interpretation. When there is room for debate, specific rationale for a particular division or order can be found in the notes related to that event. Still, this provides a generally accepted chronology of events and can be very helpful in understanding the flow of Jesus&#; life and ministry. For a downloadable .xls or .pdf of this and other documents, see Handouts/Downloads.

    Chronology of Jesus

A chronology of Jesus aims to establish a timeline for the events of the life of Jesus. Scholars have correlated Jewish and Greco-Roman documents and astronomical calendars with the New Testament accounts to estimate dates for the major events in Jesus's life.

Two main approaches have been used to estimate the year of the birth of Jesus: one based on the accounts in the Gospels of his birth with reference to King Herod's reign, and the other by subtracting his stated age of "about 30&#;years" when he began preaching. Most scholars, on this basis, assume a date of birth between 6 and 4&#;BC.[1][2][3][4][5]

Three details have been used to estimate the year when Jesus began preaching: a mention of his age of "about 30&#;years" during "the fifteenth year" of the reign of Tiberius namn på en berömd romersk ledare eller en klassisk sallad, another relating to the date of the building of the Temple in Jerusalem, and yet another concerning the death of John th
